Ørsted ships final suction bucket foundations from HSG Sungdong to Greater Changhua 2b and 4 wind farms in Taiwan

Today, Ørsted, the global leader in offshore wind, announced that the final batch of suction bucket jacket (SBJ) foundations had departed from the HSG Sungdong Shipbuilding yard in Korea. These foundations are en route to Ørsted’s 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan, marking the completion of HSG Sungdong’s fabrication scope and a key milestone in project delivery.
Jungmin Park, Country Manager Korea at Ørsted, says: "The milestone highlights the valuable role that Korean suppliers play in advancing offshore wind across Asia Pacific. For over a decade, they’ve been an integral part of our global and regional supply chains. Our collaboration with HSG Sungdong reflects our commitment to fostering local supply chain capabilities and ensuring the benefits of offshore wind are shared with Korean industry."

A total of 66 SBJ foundations will be installed at the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 sites, located 35–60 kilometers off the coast of Changhua County in central Taiwan. Ørsted is deploying the piling-free foundation technology—which minimizes underwater noise and seabed disturbance—for the first time in Asia.

Ørsted’s collaboration with HSG Sungdong began in early 2023, with the steel cutting ceremony held in May that year. The first batch of SBJs was delivered in November 2024, and foundation installation began in April 2025. As a new supplier in this field, HSG Sungdong ramped up its capabilities and successfully delivered 33 out of the 66 foundations. Throughout the process, Ørsted and HSG Sungdong worked closely to strengthen safety performance, enhance quality control, and ensure on-time delivery to the required standards.

In Korea, Ørsted is making steady progress on its 1.4 GW Incheon offshore wind project, with the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process now underway. The project is expected to contribute significantly to Korea’s energy transition and carbon neutrality goals. It demonstrates Ørsted’s commitment to realizing the Incheon project in close collaboration with experienced Korean suppliers and key local partners.
