Designed for lower-grade elementary school students, the programme introduces the basics of renewable energy and offshore wind in an engaging and age-appropriate way. The activity connected clean energy concepts to Incheon’s local environment, helping children understand how offshore wind works and why it matters for their community.
Participants watched a video adaptation of ‘Is This My Home?’, a children’s book developed by Ørsted. Through the story of a young girl and her journey together with animals and nature, the video conveys the message that the Earth is a shared home worth protecting. The story encourages children to reflect on how everyday actions can contribute to caring for the environment.
The programme also featured a hands-on activity session, where the children built model offshore wind turbines using block-based educational kits. Through this interactive exercise, the children learned how wind is converted into electricity and explored how offshore wind power can coexist with marine ecosystems.
Ørsted explained that this programme helped children easily understand that offshore wind is a sustainable energy source closely connected to the natural environment around us, while highlighting the importance of coexisting with nature. Ørsted also said that it will continue to work closely with local communities to inspire future generations to protect the planet and take meaningful action towards a more sustainable future.
Ørsted is currently developing a 1.4 GW offshore wind project located approximately 70 kilometres off the coast of Incheon. Guided by their commitment to decarbonisation, nature-positive solutions, and value creation for local communities, the project is progressing through environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and basic wind farm design in close collaboration with local stakeholders.
Once completed, the project is expected to supply renewable electricity equivalent to the energy usage of approximately one million households and contribute to long-term economic and social value for the Incheon region, supporting Korea’s 2050 carbon neutrality goal.
